EBEN and Globethics.net, the global network on ethics with its international secretariat in Geneva, recently signed a partnership agreement. The cooperation creates synergies between the European and the global efforts. It allows EBEN members a facilitated and preferential access to the services and network of Globethics.net, especially its very helpful Globethics.net Library.

 

This leading global digital library on ethics was launched by Globethics.net on 9 October 2008. This library provides users free access to full text versions of about 200 journals and more than a million documents in the field of applied ethics.

 

The digital library on ethics is an initiative of Globethics.net, a global network organization with the objective of empowering people in all regions of the world to reflect and act on ethical issues. They developed the Globethics.net Library to ensure that persons and institutions - especially in Africa, Asia and Latin-America - have access to good quality and up to date knowledge resources. There is no cost involved in using the library. Individuals only need to register (free of charge) as participants on the Globethics.net website (www.globethics.net) to get access to all the full text journals, encyclopaedias, e-books and other resources in the library.

 

The library does not only offer free access to knowledge sources, but also offers the unique opportunity to submit your own documents on applied ethics (like articles, journals, books, dissertations, newsletters) to the Globethics.net Library. This will ensure that your publications get more global exposure. You can find information on how to access the library as well as on how to submit documents to the library on the globethics.net website.

 

On the basis of the Partnership agreement, the EBEN Executive Committee and Globethics.net agreed that all EBEN members have automatic access to Globethics.net.  You therefore are already pre-registered at Globethics.net, but in order to get access you have to go the website www.globethics.net, login with your email and then click on “password forgotten?”.  You will then receive your password.  This allows you to go to “myglobethics.net/ my personal profile”.  Here you need to fill in the necessary information about yourself or your organisation.  You can either keep this minimal or provide extensive information.  This information can be viewed by other members of the Globalethics network but at the same time allows you or your organisation to link up with others involved in your interests.
